In the spirit of Thanksgiving…

In the spirit of Thanksgiving…

The line between successful people and average joe’s is actually marginal. There isn’t a huge distinct separation. Crossing the line only requires tiny action steps or small changes in daily habits that compound over time. The small compounds are then deemed overnight success, when really it required work day in and day out.  You might be wondering what some of… Read More

Why You Need An “Oh Sh*t Fund”

Why You Need An “Oh Sh*t Fund”

One fine spring day, as I was making the journey to work, a huge, monstrous rock flew out of a truck, and hit my windshield. How the windshield stayed together is beyond me, but no matter how I looked at it, it needed to be replaced. That stuff happens. Let’s imagine you’ve been working at a job for a year…. Read More

Why you are broke: Reason #1

Why you are broke: Reason #1

What if I told you the reason you are broke is about 75% your fault and 25% someone else’s fault. But, after this post, it will be 100% on you. (It’s not too late to turn back!) By the time you are 5 years old, you have a set of political, religious, environmental, and financial beliefs that has been embedded… Read More

2 Things No One Tells You About Getting Out of Debt

2 Things No One Tells You About Getting Out of Debt

The feeling debt gives us can be summarized in one word: Shackles. Imprisonment. Trapped. Stuck. (insert your own verb or noun).  One of the best quotes I’ve ever heard on debt is this: “Some debts are fun when acquiring them, but none are fun when you set about retiring them.” How true is this?  Trust me, I’m like everyone else…. Why Maxing Out Your Credit Card In 1 Hour Is Dumb

Why Maxing Out Your Credit Card In 1 Hour Is Dumb

I get sent articles/texts/Facebook messages of some really cool money topics. But sometimes, just sometimes, I get sent things that make me want to shake someone. (don’t worry- I’m kidless!) I was sent a Facebook status post. A young, 18 or 19 year old female bragging about maxing her “Victoria’s Don’t Tell Nobody” card…within the first hour. The video encapsulates… Read More

Snowball Effect and Buying Stolen Credit Cards

Snowball Effect and Buying Stolen Credit Cards

As I write this, I am sitting on my patio, drinking coffee with Peppermint Mocha creamer, listening to birds chirp, and watching the sunset. It’s been about a month since I have had the opportunity to do this and oh how it was missed! Being in nature relaxes me and reminds me of how petty my “problems”really are. Although I could… Read More

How I paid $472 for my MBA

How I paid $472 for my MBA

You read that correctly. When I graduate in May 2015 (did you just hear angels singing?), I will have paid less than 500 bucks for my grad school. Part of my weirdness- if you’ve met me, you understand- is challenging social norms and experimenting with my personal life. I like to test my self imposed boundaries. So when people told… Read More

I *might* have enough money for a (unusable at the I *might* have enough money for a (unusable at the moment) ✈️ plane ticket for every time I have heard someone say they:

✖️Pay for a monthly service
✖️Bank at a specific financial institution
✖️Use a financial advisor
✖️Invest their money in a specific way

Or make any other financial decision solely because their parent told them to.

It’s not only okay, it’s healthy to make financial decisions based on what’s best for YOU.

And sometimes that means going against the grain of what works for your parents or friends.
Our phase 1 of the kitchen remodel includes:
✖️ installing a kitchen island
✖️painting the kitchen cabinets
✖️ replacing kitchen backsplash

We decided to save the money and NOT replace cabinets or countertops this year (since we are working on some real estate projects).

But there is a blog post live on WhitneyHansen.com with a full tutorial of how to paint your own kitchen cabinets... without sanding.

It was a 2/10 on the difficulty process and 10/10 on the transformation process.😍
