What if I told you the reason you are broke is about 75% your fault and 25% someone else’s fault. But, after this post, it will be 100% on you. (It’s not too late to turn back!)
By the time you are 5 years old, you have a set of political, religious, environmental, and financial beliefs that has been embedded in your wee 5 year old brain. Our parents, bless their hearts, do the best they can to make us successful and prepare us for the world we will venture into, but the damage has already been done.
The beliefs that have been instilled in our brains are called limiting beliefs. Beliefs that we think we have chosen on our own, but generally speaking, have not. These beliefs typically limit our ability to achieve awesome things in our lives. They create unnecessary fear, doubt, or limitations in any way.
These beliefs impact our day to day decisions in huuuge ways. Sometimes, it’s so engrained in our mindsets, we don’t even realize it has an effect on us. It took me years- I’m a slow learner- to recognize that the reason I believed it was necessary to take out a loan to start a business was solely due to my upbringing. I didn’t consider if I agreed or disagreed with that mentality until I was in my mid 20’s.
Again, parents usually have our best interest at heart- but raise your hand high in the air if you were taught from a young age:
It takes money to make money.
Two things about limiting beliefs:
1. We ALL have them.
2. Being aware of them is the first step to changing.
It takes some serious reprogramming to change a belief we have been taught since we were babies.
The challenge from the video is simple: Be aware of your limiting belief, and find out why you believe that way.
We will discuss more limiting beliefs in this series and help you recognize what those are. At the end of the series, we will discuss how to reprogram your mind and change some of those financially limiting beliefs.
Thank you so much for reading, watching and sharing.
Best,
