Book Review: Lean In

Don’t like to read? No problem! I am starting a new series where I will provide you a book review and highlight the key concepts that I took away from the book and you don’t have to read it. (Although, I highly encourage everyone to be a reader!)

I’m proud to announce that my new first ever book review is Sheryl Sandberg’s, “Lean In.” This book quite literally changed my life. What an incredible book!

Sheryl discusses the difficulties, opportunities, and unique challenges women come across while being in the workplace. This book is NOT only for the girl power peeps.

MEN- this book is for you too!

What business doesn’t want to increase their bottom line? This book discusses the importance of building women up and how that will impact a companies profitability.

Godsent.

The video below highlights my key takeaways from the book.

Did you know that when asking questions, women tend to put their hand down before men? Or that women tend to sit in the back of the room instead of at the table? But there are so many more interesting insights.

She highlights the importance of women going “full-throttle” on the gas pedal.

So many times, women will slow down in their careers because of anticipation of bearing children (even before they are dating!). Fascinating stuff! I had a newfound motivation to go full throttle in my career, so that if I choose to have children, I can come back to a great senior level position that I truly love.

I can’t stress the importance of being extremely selective with your significant other.

There is a high correlation between having a supportive partner and achieving a rewarding career. Don’t choose someone who doesn’t appreciate your passion, drive, desire to work outside of the home, or even entertain the idea.

Those were my thoughts. I can’t even tell you how much I loved this book. Truly enhanced my mindset on my career.

Did you read this book? What were your takeaways? Comment below.

Thank you so much for reading.
